And of course, one of the most well-known genres and which has been recognized as intangible cultural heritage of humanity according to UNESCO since 2010, Flamenco.
The truth is that, although in the charts and on the radio, you will listen only to very commercial groups and singers, there are a lot of young Spaniards who don’t listen to that type of music. In Spain there is a very important independent scene pop-rock groups sound that would fall under the indie label, from 80s classics like Joy Division to britpop, garage, post-rock and post-punk, metal, rap, reggae, punk or jazz are more minority genres, but they also have their place in the Spanish music scene.
In this first installment of Spanish music, we have a great musician and friend of Mar k Spanish, Raul Romo. Raul is a Spanish saxophonist, composer and producer Raul’s electrifying performances can be seen around the globe where he plays alongside DJs in night clubs riffing over popular dance tracks with his Laser adorned Sax!
Raul Romo graduated Summa Cum Laude in “Jazz Composition” at “Berklee College of Music” in Boston (USA) He and his Laser adorned Sax have performed across the globe at many International Music Festivals including Las Vegas (USA), Ludhiana (INDIA), Regensburg (Germany), Palermo (Italy), Vitoria-Gasteiz, Niteroi (Brazil), Bruges (Belgium), Madrid and performed and recorded with artists such as Winton Marsalis, Dr. John, “Prince” Phillip Mitchell, Fred Wesley, Dario Nuñez and Barbara Mason.
He collaborates with international Dj´s such as “The Cube Guys” (Italy), Rey Vercosa (Brazil), Agent Greg (Greece)
